Movement

The Swiss made ETA caliber 2824-2 is perhaps one of the most well-known and most recognized movements in the watch industry. It has been in production since 1982 and was based off of the original Eterna caliber 1427. The “-2” designation indicates that it is the 2nd generation in the evolution of the movement.

The 2824 is considered to be a “workhorse” movement by many watch enthusiasts. There is also a manual wind version of this movement, known as caliber 2804-2.

Dial & Design

The LIV GX-Diver's dial is engineered with a multi-layered design, with attention to the smallest of details. The minute indices are actually located on the ring between the crystal and the dial, the BGW9 luminescence dots are applied to the wave textured outer ring - surrounded with a polished frame. The 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock indicators are cutouts that show a layer of orange behind them - making them stand out quite well on the black dial. The 3 o'clock date window (also surrounded by a polished frame) holds a white number with a black background, which makes it easy to find and read. The center of the dial is finished in a flat or matte black, with the LIV logo in a polished orange metallic polished finish applied under the 12, while the LIV name, automatic, and water resistance is above the 6 position. The attention to detail is found in multiple places on the dial of this timepiece, the more that you look at it - the more detail you see. The hour and minute hands are in the sword shape, with the BGW9 Luminescence coating, while the second hand is finished in orange - with the tip coated in the BGW9 also.

Case & Details

The LIV GX Divers 41 mm case is finished with a IP Black satin finished coating, allowing the grain of the 316L stainless steel to be seen. The case is topped with a black ceramic bezel, the countdown numbers are machined into the bezel and are coated in the same black as the rest of the watch with the exception of the countdown numbers from 0 (marked with a triangle with a BGW9 dot) to 20 are done with an orange finish. The caseback is also finished in an IP Black coating with the exhibition case so that you can see the ETA 2824-2 movement. The crown is also finished in the IP Black, has an orange polished metal strip in the center of the crowns grips, and is finished with the LIV logo inlay on the top.

On The Wrist Experience

Even with the fact that this is one of my smaller diameter watches(at 41 mm), and I have the Ballistic Nylon strap, this is a nicely weighted timepiece. The weight makes it noticeable when you wear it - but not uncomfortable. I have worn this watch in the business environment, and with the black and orange color combination it grabs some attention. I have worn it in both cold and warm weather - and it is comfortable in both of these conditions. This is one of the few timepieces that can go from the office, to the gym, to the pool and then to a night out without ever having to switch - making this by far one of the most versatile timepieces in my collection.

Sales & Customer Service Experience

If you are just starting in collecting watches, LIV needs to be one of the first companies that you have interactions with, period. The experience that you have with the LIV Team is better than I have had with some of the mainstream luxury brands, in fact the experience that you have with LIV should set the bar for all watch makers no matter the price point. Customer service with the LIV team starts with the purchase, and it never stops from that point forward. I have received constant communication during the order processing, shipping, and post shipping stages of my purchase. I received emails about the use and care of my LIV GX-Divers immediately after it was delivered. I was invited to their owners group on social media, where other LIV owners seem to share the same satisfaction of the timepieces and the experience.

Final Thoughts & Recommendations

If you are in search of a versatile, high quality, unique timepiece - look no further than the LIV GX-Diver's Series. If you only want one watch - this is it, you will not need another one. If you, like me, are a collector - this is a must have. LIV is by far one of the main reasons that I support boutique watchmakers, they care that you are their customer - and they show it with their timepieces, their customer service, and the care and communication with owners. If you get the opportunity to purchase a LIV timepiece, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed - I haven't been, in fact I have other LIV timepieces in my collection and will be adding more.
