Movement

Created by RONDA AG, Lausen/Switzerland, March 19, 2015

The Swiss watch manufacturer launches a second chronograph featuring a top price-performance ratio. Two years after the introduction of the extremely attractively priced Ronda Xtratech chrono Z60 the product line is growing and boasts a further addition. Neat and simple looking, the Z50 meets the trend for watches with stop functions and multi-design features. Given the well-balanced positioning of both eyes on the dial, the brand manufacturer has plenty of space for individual design.

The catch phrase “Less is more” describes the new Z50 aptly and to the point: the 13¼‘‘‘ caliber of 30.00 mm diameter features - in addition to the center stop second - a 30-minute counter, a small second and a date indicator.

Its predecessor, the Z60 with its classic 3-eye look, is different in that the model offers a day indicator as an additional feature. The movement has also been available as a Swiss Parts version since the beginning of the year. Purposely leaving out any further extras adding to watch expense, the Xtratech line is primarily in demand for watches in the fashion area and for sport watches.

Dial & Design

Oceaneva has taken the retro Gulf GT look to the next level with this Wave Racer Pro Diver Blue Dial Racing Stripes, the dial of this timepiece has started many conversations, it really grabs the attention of everyone. I am going to cover the technical information of the dial and design - but the pure aesthetics of the timepiece need to be addressed as well. There is Swiss BGW9 luminescence on the hands, hour markers, and all of the markers and numbers on the bezel.

The stainless steel tachymeter (fixed position) is easily read, and the two sub dials (the time seconds and 30 minute counter) have a white background with orange hands, the date window is at the 6 o'clock position (white background, black numerals). The dial is dark blue with a light blue and orange racing stripes near the crown - bringing the Gulf GT Racing from the 60's and 70's into the timepiece.

Case & Details

The 316L Oceaneva is 42mm in diameter, 14mm thick, 49.5mm lug to lug with a 22mm lug width case is finished in a beautiful mix of brushed and polished finishing. The case also has integrated crown guards. The screw down triple seal crown is beautifully signed, has a gear style edge.

Also, with the water resistance rating of 50 ATM, it comes with a fully functioning helium valve at the 9 o'clock position of the case - this adds protection to the movement when used at depth. The stainless steel bracelet, like all of the Oceaneva timepieces is a top-notch high quality part of the timepiece.

On The Wrist Experience

When I opened the box, opened the leather travel pouch - the picture on the Oceaneva website did not give this timepiece justice. I say that, but in no way suggesting that the quality and design of Oceaneva is top-notch - as this is not my only Oceaneva timepiece. This is a beautiful example of a luxury timepiece by far, proving that not all timepieces of this style are at the mainstream luxury price points. This is one of my small diameter watches, and in the top five that I wear on a regular basis. It is comfortable, not heavy on the wrist and easy to read - making it a great daily wear. I have worn it in the business environment - and it goes well with both a suit and tie or some khakis and a polo, this watch adds a luxury look to whatever you are wearing. It can also be worn with some jeans for a night out, some shorts and flip flops for a day by the pool, river, lake or at the beach. The Wave Racer is a versatile and beautiful example of design and engineering performed by small brand companies

Sales & Customer Service Experience

So far the only interaction that I have had with Oceaneva is through the website, and it goes into detail about the technical specifications of the watches, the water resistant testing that is performed, and purchasing the timepieces. I have not had any issues that would require me to interact with Customer Service, but the purchasing interface is nothing unusual.

Final Thoughts & Recommendations

While I wear this timepiece, it catches a lot of attention, starts a lot of conversations, and I am happy to share information on Oceaneva and my experience with the Wave Racer and other timepieces in my collection.

This is not what I expected from this timepiece, many of my conversation starters are loud, large, or uniquely designed - while this timepiece is just elegant and simple. This is a must have for any collector, it also would be a great single owner timepiece. I would recommend the Oceaneva Wave Racer Pro to anyone looking for that "one watch". This is a great luxury timepieces without the mainstream luxury prices.
