First Impressions

This is the second Reign Automatic that I have in my collection, both of them being what I consider "Dress" watches - and both of them are very nice timepieces for that category. The dial and case are simple but elegant, with a smooth gloss black dial with polished batons for the indices. The brushed stainless steel case has the grain going from front to back, while the stainless steel bezel has a slight polish on the grain of the stainless steel. The Reign logo, and the Automatic text at 6 o'clock are both in a polished finish - an stand out quite well from the dial. The Day | Date window at the 3 o'clock position are white with black text, there is no border around the window, and there is really no need for it on this face - the contrast allows for both to be read quite easily. The only luminescence's are the baton styled hour and minute hands - the central-second hand is red and stands out against the dial.

The Reign Helios engine is the Miyota 8205-3CA, which is a Day | Date premium caliber with a central second hand. This Miyota premium caliber has been in production since 1977, it has a central-rotor with a clockwise balance cock , and is still in production today - so this is a great engine for this very elegant looking automatic. With that being said, I have no issues with the engine of the Reign Helios.

The caseback is in polished stainless steel with a large observation opening that exhibits the Miyota 8205 movement. The rotor looks to be stainless with a polished Reign logo on it. There is a convex shape to the case back, the sapphire lens is flat, making the Reign Helios very comfortable to wear. The text that is etched in the stainless steel part of the case back are your normal informational items, Reign logo, Stainless Steel, WR, and Automatic - there is no serial number that I could identify on either the case back or the engine.

The strap that the watch came with is a nice hybrid strap - the top is black canvas, while the wrist side is done in black genuine leather (with the Reign logo embossed on the 12 o'clock side, and Genuine Leather on the 6 o'clock side - and the stitching is in black. The canvas side has a stitched leather strip that protects the adjustment holes. The tang is finished with a brushed finish and the Reign logo.

The strap is for a normal sized wrist, which I do not have, so I have to use the second adjustment hole, which does not allow enough length to go through both keepers on the strap. I have already ordered a Barton Watch Band (Gingerbread Brown Leather NATO strap) to replace the standard strap.

The Reign Helios is a great business day, or night out dress watch - and a great addition to my collection.
