Shield Abyss

Shield

Going the Distance A true contemporary diver's watch is in accordance with the ISO 6425 standard, which defines test standards and features for watches suitable for diving with underwater breathing apparatus in depths of 10ATN | 100M | 330ft or more. Our watches are double that, at 20ATM | 200M | 600ft. Designed for Speed High contrasting, non-cluttered dials and markers with a large, easily identifiable minute hand differentiates diving watches from the rest. This feature also makes them the most suitable for hardcore professions, such as firefighting and police work. Attention to Detail Our hands and markers are treated with a phosphorescent super-luminova which make them readable in low-light conditions. This makes diving watches ideal for the deep blue depths and low-light conditions in everyday wear.

First Impressions

The unboxing of the watch:

The initial overview:

This is my first Shield Watch in my collection, the Abyss. The box was nice and simple, and I actually liked that about the watch also - very nice and simple timepiece. The silver sunburst dial is very - and the orange second hand and arrow hour and minute hands stand out from the dial, making it very easy to read. The blue on the bezel is very eye catching, but it is a little tight when it comes to rotating - and there is no luminous on the bezel (not even on the triangle for centering). This would be a concern if this was going to be my primary Diver, but I chose this based on simplicity and wearability. I have many Diver's, they are my watch style of choice. I wanted this to be able to wear to work and not have it catch on the cuff of my shirts.

The fit:

Out of the box, this watch needed no adjustment in order to be a very comfortable fit. The Shield Abyss was very comfortable to wear while I was writing this review - it is lightweight and the 43 mm case makes it very comfortable while performing daily work tasks. The Shield Abyss would be a great addition to any collection as a daily wear timepiece, and for my first experience with Shield Watches, I was very impressed on how accurately this timepiece met the requirement's that I had set for it.
